Just One Small Thing

A new productivity app wants to help you. It only asks for one small thing at a time. Decide whether to agree or decline at each step.

1Read each request the app makes.
2Tap Agree or Decline. Each ask is a little bigger than the last.
3See how far you went before drawing the line.

Foot-in-the-Door

Foot-in-the-door is the tendency to agree to a larger request after you have already agreed to a small related one, because you want to act consistently with what you have already done.

Salespeople, fundraisers, and apps deliberately open with a tiny "yes" to unlock bigger ones. Your need to stay consistent with yourself does the rest of the work for them.
